Academics - WINGS: Academic Support Programs


Cresset Christian Academy strives to provide a successful learning experience for students with a range of different learning styles. When the students require extra support beyond the classroom instruction, the academic programs known as WINGS are available. These programs require additional tuition. WINGS. consists of three programs: enrichment, tutoring, and educational therapy.

Enrichment

Students who show high academic achievement in the 3- 8 grades can enhance their abilities through the Enrichment program. The students meet once a week for 80 minute sessions. Activities are planned to challenge the students in the following skills:

  • Critical thinking
  • Logical reasoning
  • Written expression
  • Mathematical think
  • Problem solving

Tutoring

Student who need additional support to learn academic subjects are recommend for tutoring. The length of the tutoring commitments is based on the student’s academic need. The support provided through tutoring:

  • Math skills
  • Reading comprehension
  • Study skills
  • Test preparation

Educational Therapy

Students who have average to superior intelligence and a diagnosed learning difficulties are recommend for educational therapy. Educational therapy is provided by a therapist who has been trained through the National Institute for Learning Development* in Norfolk, VA. Through Educational therapy, students receive individual help to strength learning deficits in the following learning capabilities:

  • Memory (Auditory and Visual)
  • Visual-Motor skills
  • Phonics/Reading Comprehension
  • Cursive handwriting
  • Math thinking and reasoning

Therapy sessions occur twice a week for 80 minutes. During each session, the student receives one-on-one intensive therapy which is determined by psychological and academic testing. It is recommended for students to be involved in therapy for a minimum of three years. The long term goal of the therapy is to provide the students with the skills to be independent and confident learns in the classroom and life.
