The History

The Cresset Eagle Classic began in 2005 with approximately 94 golfers and was played at Finley Country Club in Chapel Hill.  The tournament continued at Finley until 2008 where it moved to The Preserve Golf Course located between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro.  The tournament has always been played as “Captain’s Choice” (Best Ball).  All levels of golfers have participated in the past from the novice, the experienced, and students from Cresset!

The Purpose of the Tournament is to raise funds to be used by the school for items, projects, etc. that are not budgeted with the fiscal year.  Over the years, funds raised from the tournament have gone to the purchase of our new High School building, the Eagle Center, and also towards a mini-bus used for team travel, elementary school outings and field trips.  Monies raised through the 2009-2010 school year will go towards facility improvements for the academy.

Not only has the tournament been a financial success, but the fun and fellowship enjoyed by the golfers and workers have made the tournament a great experience.   Many golfers come from outside the Cresset Family and have learned much about the school and its students.   The meal and ceremonies at the end of the tournament offer the participants great food, great prizes and loads of fun.
